No I'm pretty sure you 'have' to ask for permission.
Credits aren't enough, you'd basically be stealing their work without their permission.

What you're doing is using the person's model, with or without their permission.
That is basically their entire work and mod. I still think you should get permission first, otherwise you're no better than the mod pack makers on Youtube that steal people's work.

There's a difference between sharing a mod in private with friends, and sharing a public mod on a public forum without the author's concent.
