Added another possible cause that can cause the compiler error = 6 in the troubleshooting (flex sdk needs visual c++ 2010 redistributable) The link to the Microsoft package to fix it is in the troubleshooting section.

So, upon the first launch of the xv2ins.exe, I accidentally changed the directory to a folder where the game isn't located on my PC. How do I fix this?
Edit: To be more specific: the errors that come up are "CompileCharaSel failed" and "Install failed on phase 1. Will try to undo." followed by the program closing.

I will fix that in future. I didn't think anyone would be modding a value that was always 0 in all entries. Where did you get that cus or how did you modify it? EDIT: actually that file is ****ed up, sorry. Some bad editing was done there. It has a number of skillsets greater than the skillsets in the actual file. The file shows all the symptoms of a poor hex-editing. The number of skill sets is smaller than the one indicated. The super skills offsets (and all offsets after) are bigger than they should by 0x60 bytes. A chaos.

You'll have to reinstall mods. Delete cus and reinstall mod one by one (it is possible that the installer will ask you the questions to choose the slots again)

eternity I am having problems with some x2m files, the installer is not reading them, they are some Amarazu HS mods Argh, it is the "weird symbols in path" bug again, I though I fixed that in Eternity Audio Tool (and also here, who reuses code from it). Move the x2m to other location. Those "stars" in the folder name are causing the problem. Edit: the installer can only read paths in the local 8 bit charset. That "star" symbol is probably outside the local 8-bit charset, my application doesn't support unicode path names directly, although the local 8-bit charset usually has most of the symbols someone will ever use.

I've got this same issue after updating to the more recent version, and going back to the older one doesn't work anymore now. I'm at a loss. I've tried creating a JRE folder inside the flex_sdk folder with the proper files added, and still nothing. I've got a bunch of mods waiting to be installed that can't. Use these instructions and send me the log file of process monitor. Also, tell me if you have a windows environment variable called JAVA_HOME. The oddest thing happened. It still wasn't working when I just tried, and then saw your reply to me here, so I downloaded the Process Monitor program and initiated it as stated in the post you linked me to, then when I tried to get the log by demonstrating how it fails, it decided to work. All on its own. All I did was have Process Monitor open, monitoring the process. Now it works just fine. I'm completely at a loss to what happened but I'm happy to know it's working now. Perhaps Process Monitor writes something in terms of access to the Windows 10 system? I'm not a programmer so I can't say. But thanks, eternity. Good work.

Afaik the process monitor doesn't install anything. It is just a standalone program with a signed driver inside, but that's just it. Maybe today you installed the Visual C++ 2010 redistributable package (the abscence of that package is one, but not the only, cause of ret=6) when installing some other program. (a lot of programs use that)

(a lot of programs use that) That sounds probable. I am running on a new Windows 10 install, after all. I'm pretty sure Windows Update is playing a game of "catch up" and updating itself periodically until it's up to the recent update. Maybe that was it. I honestly cannot recall if I had that redistributable installed already but I did on my previous Windows 10 install. As I look now, I do see that I have it. We may have found another possible solution to another possible error.
