When I try to log in now, using the shortcut I pulled out to bypass the easycheat thing....I get the message that 'this version of the patcher doesn't support this game'....any ideas?

Eternity already said everything about that. If no problem is encountered, patcher may be up tomorrow (monday). You guys should check a bit before asking questions.

As pretty much always, DIMPS had to put out a hotfix after the initial patch.
My guess would be, your Steam hasn't downloaded that yet. See if there's an update needed message for XV2 in Steam.
If not, you can try forcing the update by verifying your game files.
