i Have Photoshop with DDS plugin and understand basics, but when i save my SEL and BTL files, they either gain a poor black outline round the image i saved, or dont work at all, any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can use paint.net instead, PS makes that black outline, also you can use the auto generated portraits option
